Hence, eating diet foods can cause your calorie consumption to come down if you are careful about sticking to your diet. The problem is that most people going on diets do not keep the weight off. Once they are off the diet, they often gorge on food to make up for all the food they did not eat while on their diet. And in the meantime, they eat a lot of unhealthy, "fake" foods that have only recently been introduced into our diets. In addition, significantly lowering your caloric intake slows down your metabolism and hence when you stop eating diet food, you put on even more weight.
