More on the Dangers of Eating Refined Sugar

Americans Eat 160 Pound of Sugar
Per Year in Their Diets

Annual Sugar Consumption Now 170 Pounds Per Person!

Annual refined sugar consumption in the 1890’s averaged 5 lbs per person; today it’s up to 170 pounds per person!  The majority of this is now actually in the form of fructose, which as we explained before, is worse than sucrose.  170 lbs per person works out to close to ½ lb per person per day, which makes up more than 25% of our caloric intake.  This means that 1/4 of what we eat are empty (or more appropriately, negative), calories.  This is enormous!  It’s no wonder we are overweight and malnoursished and getting lots of diseases at younger and younger ages.

Must Cut Back On Sugar to Lose Weight & Be Healthy

We firmly believe that if you want to lose weight and keep that weight off, you must conquer your sugar addiction.  For many, the key to cutting back on sugar consumption is getting enough fat, protein and other nutrients in your diet.  Many people try to cut out refined sugar, but switch to a high carbohydrate diet, low fat, low protein diet, and then wonder why they still crave sugar.  If you have a problem with candida, you may also need to get rid of the candida before your cravings disappear.

Healthy Diets Can Include Some Natural Sweeteners

If you have health problems like the afore-mentioned candida, or blood sugar problems like hypoglycemia or type II diabetes, or adrenal malfunctions, it’s a good idea to avoid all or most sugars, even the natural kinds like honey or sweet fruits, until you get better.  However, traditional healthy diets often included some unrefined, natural, mineral-rich sweeteners like honey or maple syrup in small quantities, so we don’t think you forgo eating natural sweeteners in your diet, but we do urge caution.
