Dangers of Eating Sugar in Your Diet

Avoid Eating White Sugar
and Refined Foods In Your Diet

Even though refined sugar comes from real foods like sugar cane, beets or corn, by the time it’s turned into the white substance we widely use, it is stripped of its vitamins, minerals and many other nutrients, and little resembles the product it came from.  In fact, it acts more like a drug than a food.  Many people think that white sugar would not be approved as an acceptable food by the FDA if it was introduced into the marketplace today.

Eating Refined Sugar in Diet Creates Havoc in our Body

Refined sugar may be called dextrin, maltodextrin, fructose, glucose, or dextrose.  Many people mistakenly think there’s nothing wrong with a little sugar consumption – after all, our cells need glucose, right?  Well, while our cells do need sugar, when it’s eaten as a food in the form of refined sugar products in our diet, it creates havoc in our body.  Some of the adverse health effects that eating sugar as a significant portion of the diet has been implicated in include:

  • Blood Sugar Swings
  • Diabetes
  • Heart Disease*
  • Depressed Immune Function
  • Obesity
  • Nutrient Depletion
  • Bone Loss

*  In fact, numerous studies have positively correlated sugar intake with heart disease - this link is for more proven than the supposed link between heart disease and saturated fats.

Sugar in Diet Depresses Immune System

Eating sugar has been shown to decrease immune system function for up to 5 hours after ingestion, so if you eat sugar at all meals, your immune system will be depressed all day.

Fructose Worse Than White Sugar

Some people think fructose is better for you than sucrose since it doesn’t raise blood sugar or insulin levels as much as sucrose.  However, studies have shown even greater health problems are associated with eating fructose in the form of high fructose corn syrup (we're not talking about eating fruit or a fruit product, but a highly refined product made from corn).  These problems may stem from the fact that fructose needs to be process by the liver and seems to overload it when eating large amounts from lots of foods in our diet, like most of us do today.
